India, April 2 -- An eleven-month-old boy died after accidentally drowning in a bucket of water at his home in Bengaluru on Wednesday, following which his mother allegedly died by suicide, police said.

The incident occurred in Byraveshwaranagar in west Bengaluru. The mother had reportedly stepped out to the terrace in the evening to collect dried clothes at the time.

During her absence, the child is believed to have entered the bathroom, where he accidentally fell into a bucket filled with water and drowned, The Times of India reported.

The mother was reportedly devastated after discovering what had happened. Police said she blamed herself for the incident.
