Kolkata/New Delhi, April 30 -- West Bengal recorded a historic turnout in the 2026 assembly elections, with overall polling touching 92.9% till late Tuesday night, according to Election Commission data. Phase 1, held on April 23, saw turnout of 93.19%, while the second and final phase on Wednesday recorded 92.59%. The turnout marks the highest in West Bengal's history in absolute terms, with around 63.3 million votes cast compared with 59.9 million in 2021. It also surpassed the previous high of 84.72% recorded in the 2011 assembly polls. Kolkata emerged as a key focus area in Phase 2, registering heavy polling without reports of violence.
