Jalandhar, Nov. 2 -- A day after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) directed Punjab government to adopt stringent measures against farmers involved in stubble burning, the state recorded the highest single-day spike this season with a total of 442 cases on Saturday. The total tally in the state this year is now 2,084. The cases were almost double than Friday, when the state reported 223 farm fire incidents. Sangrur reported the highest 108 cases, followed by 49 in Ferozepur, 42 in Bathinda, Ferozepur 40, Patiala 33, and Mansa 28. On the corresponding date last year, the state had recorded 587 farm fires, while it was 1,921 in 2023.
