Silchar/Shillong, Aug. 23 -- A temporary truce between taxi operators from Meghalaya and Assam on Sunday eased a key flashpoint along the interstate border, with Meghalaya agreeing to resume cross-border movement until September 10 as efforts continued to prevent a recurrence of the August 19 violence in Shillong.

Meghalaya deputy chief minister in-charge of transport Sniawbhalang Dhar said tourist taxi associations agreed to lift their proposed blockade following an emergency meeting with the government. A joint meeting involving transport officials and taxi associations from both states will be held by September 10.
