India, June 5 -- British actor Anthony Head, renowned for his performances in television series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Ted Lasso, Merlin, and Little Britain, has passed away at the age of 72.

Head gained worldwide recognition as Rupert Giles in the popular supernatural teen drama Buffy during the late 1990s.

He later took on a recurring role in the sketch comedy series Little Britain, portrayed King Uther Pendragon in the BBC's Merlin, and featured as former football club owner Rupert Mannion in Ted Lasso.

"He passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family," his daughters Emily and Daisy stated in a statement, as per BBC.
