LUCKNOW, Oct. 21 -- The Election Commission of India (ECI) has barred the transfer of officials engaged in the Special Summary Revision (SSR) of electoral rolls in Uttar Pradesh without its prior approval, to ensure accountability and continuity during the exercise beginning November 12, Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said on Wednesday.

Rinwa said officials involved in preparing, revising, and amending electoral rolls are deemed to be on deputation to the ECI under Section 13(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. During this period, they function under the Commission's control, supervision and disciplinary authority.
