India, June 13 -- In May 2025, over 20.8 lakh students across India appeared for the NEET UG exam - all chasing a familiar dream: to wear the white coat, to become a doctor. But what happens when over 19 lakh don't get in? According to data from the National Medical Commission, India currently has around 1,17,881 MBBS seats across 776 medical colleges.
