India, June 30 -- Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, BJP's Tarun Chugh and six other newly-elected members of the Rajya Sabha took oath on Monday. Rajya Sabha chairman CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to the members. Kharge was later recognised as the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha with effect from June 26. Kharge has been a lawmaker since 1972 barring a brief gap in 2019 when he lost the Lok Sabha elections in Gulbarga, Karnataka. Apart from Chugh and Kharge, BJP's Mansingh Meraman Parmar, Alka Singh, Jitendra Meghjibhai Kanzariya, Rajendra Hiralal Jain, M Nagaraja and Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi took the oath.htc
