India, May 26 -- Eight people died on Monday after an SUV they were travelling in plunged into a deep gorge in Maharashtra's Raigad district, police said. According to police, the accident occurred near Mahabaleshwar at 2.45am when the passengers were returning from Karade beach in Dapoli to Satara via the Poladpur-Mahabaleshwar route. The vehicle fell nearly 1,000-1,200 feet into a gorge, killing all occupants. Rescue efforts began almost immediately and stretched through the day due to the difficult terrain. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident. "I pay heartfelt tributes to the deceased and share the grief of their families," he said.P11
