Chandigarh, Oct. 14 -- The Punjab and Haryana high court on Monday deferred hearing for October 28 on a plea from AAP MLA Manjinder Singh Lalpura challenging his conviction in a 12-year-old molestation and assault case involving a woman from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.

The bench of justice Tribhuvan Dahiya heard the arguments from different parties and deferred hearing without giving any interim relief to the AAP MLA and observing that an order would be passed on the next date of hearing. Due to this conviction, Lalpura faces disqualification as MLA of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha if the conviction is not stayed by the high court.
