India, Sept. 21 -- The Congress on Monday targeted the Narendra Modi government over "skyrocketing prices" of food items with a vintage Bollywood reference to question the PM's silence on the issue.

Congress general secretary in charge of communications, Jairam Ramesh, referred to the 1977 hit Bollywood song "Kya hua tera vaada" while sharing a media report that claimed the surge in prices of various food items, including pulses and cooking oil, has completely disrupted household budgets.

Ramesh's dig was an apparent reference to the 2014 BJP campaign, "Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar", which had promised action against rising prices.
