Goa, Aug. 18 -- YouTube is set to overhaul the way it counts public views across its video formats, introducing a common measurement system for long-form videos, Shorts and live streams from August 24, 2026.

Under the new system, a public view will be registered as soon as playback begins. Viewers will no longer need to watch a video for a minimum period before that playback is reflected in the public view counter.

The change is expected to result in creators seeing their public view counts rise more quickly, particularly for traditional videos. YouTube said the move is aimed at providing creators with a consistent way to measure exposure across its different video products.
