Goa, June 26 -- The unchecked spread of water hyacinth in the Sal River has emerged as a major concern for traditional fishermen from Betul, Assolna, and Chinchinim, severely affecting their livelihoods and daily fishing operations.

Local fishermen said thick mats of floating water hyacinth frequently become entangled in their fishing nets, making it difficult to operate and significantly reducing their catch. According to them, the problem has persisted for nearly two years, resulting in financial losses and hardship for families that depend on fishing for their income.
