Goa, June 1 -- Fishing boat owners in Vasco have said that while the recently concluded fishing season was largely satisfactory, the sector continues to face significant challenges due to rising fuel prices and a shortage of labourers.

The Goa Fishing Boat Owners Association, headed by president and former minister Jose Philip D'Souza, has appealed to the government to revive the fuel subsidy scheme to provide relief to the fishing community.

Speaking on the issue, D'Souza said that escalating fuel costs have increased the operational burden on boat owners and fishermen, making it increasingly difficult to sustain traditional fishing activities.
