Goa, May 26 -- The United States Central Command has launched fresh strikes on southern Iran, targeting Iranian missile sites and boats allegedly attempting to deploy naval mines, describing the operation as an act of "self-defence."

The latest military action came even as senior Iranian negotiators were engaged in talks in Doha with Qatar's Prime Minister in an effort to secure a potential agreement aimed at ending the three-month-long conflict involving the United States and Israel.

Reports said the strikes were carried out "to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces."The targets included missile launch facilities and boats attempting to "emplace mines."
