Goa, Sept. 23 -- The United States and Iran held their first direct high-level talks in months on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, opening a new diplomatic channel as the nearly seven-month conflict between the two countries continues.

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, took part in a three-hour meeting with an Iranian delegation. Trump described the discussions as a "very good" and productive meeting and said further talks were expected in the near future.
