Goa, Aug. 13 -- Expressing deep concern over the rising threats of drug abuse and HIV in the Northeast, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday revealed that Tripura saw a 103% surge in drug seizures in 2023-24. The destruction of seized drugs also rose sharply by 130%, reflecting the state government's intensified crackdown on narcotics.
Addressing students at the state-level programme 'Bell of Awareness' held at Pragna Bhawan in Agartala on International Youth Day, Saha said Tripura currently ranks fourth in the Northeast for HIV cases. To support affected individuals, the state government provides a monthly pension of Rs 2,000 to 3,433 HIV-positive citizens.
