Goa, Aug. 28 -- The North District Police have registered three cases under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, for violations involving the sale, storage, and transportation of Plaster of Paris (PoP) Ganesh idols, which are banned in Goa due to their harmful environmental impact.

The first case was registered on Monday, August 26, at Colvale Police Station following a complaint by Varsha Parab, Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Mapusa. The complaint was lodged against Vasudev Chari of Sirsaim, Bardez, who was allegedly found displaying and stocking PoP idols for sale in violation of the law.
