Tarun Tejpal Calls Conviction 'Disappointing', Says He Will Challenge Verdict in Supreme Court
Goa, Aug. 6 -- Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal has termed his conviction in the 2013 rape case as "disappointing," maintaining that the evidence in the case clearly exonerates him.
Reacting to the verdict, Tejpal described himself as a "political victim" and alleged that the case against him was politically motivated.
He also reiterated that he would challenge the judgment before the Supreme Court of India, seeking to overturn the conviction.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court convicted Tejpal in the 2013 rape case involving a former junior colleague, setting aside the trial court's earlier acquittal. The High Court is also expected to pronounce the quantum of sentence separately.
