Goa, Oct. 28 -- Police have arrested 13 of the 17 undertrial prisoners who escaped from Thekkampatti Sub-Jail in Tamil Nadu's Theni district, following an intensive search operation in the surrounding forest. Efforts are continuing to trace the remaining four fugitives.

The escape, reportedly initiated by one of the prisoners feigning an epileptic seizure, saw the inmates flee through the jail's main gate. Most of the escapees were apprehended within a day of their breakout.

Following the escape, police launched a large-scale manhunt, focusing on the forested and mountainous terrain surrounding the prison, where the fugitives were believed to be hiding.
