India, March 14 -- The Supreme Court of India has dealt a significant setback to Digamber Kamat, the MLA from Margao, after dismissing a Special Leave Petition filed against a High Court order favouring the regularisation of municipal sanitation workers.

The petition had been filed by the Government of Goa along with the Margao Municipal Council, challenging an earlier directive that supported the regularisation of daily wage workers employed in the municipality. The Supreme Court's decision effectively upholds the earlier order, strengthening the position of the sanitation workers who have been demanding job security.
