Goa, Sept. 10 -- The Supreme Court has directed the State of Goa to maintain status quo as of September 8, 2025, regarding the areas that the High Court had earlier ordered to be notified as a tiger reserve.
A bench of the apex court further tasked the Central Empowered Committee (CEC) with examining the issue, hearing all concerned stakeholders, and submitting a comprehensive report within six weeks.
The matter is scheduled to be heard again on November 12, 2025.
The directive comes in the wake of ongoing debates over the state's forest and wildlife conservation policies, with environmentalists pushing for stronger protection of Goa's rich biodiversity and local stakeholders raising livelihood concerns.
