MARGAO, Aug. 24 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has fulfilled a long-pending demand of the Scheduled Tribes (ST) community by securing political reservation in Goa - a step that successive Congress governments had failed to take, BJP leader Dr Sneha Bhagwat said on Saturday.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP district office in Margao, Dr Bhagwat, flanked by Scheduled Tribes leaders from Curtorim, Fatorda and other areas, announced that four constituencies - Sanguem, Priol, Nuvem and Quepem - are now likely to be reserved for the ST community.
She said the move would pave the way for greater representation and development of the Gawda, Kunbi and Velip communities.
