India, Feb. 11 -- The Special Court at Merces has acquitted Panjim BJP MLA Babush Monserrate in connection with the rape case registered against him in 2016.

The court has also acquitted the co-accused, Rosario alias Rosy Ferros, in the same case.

The case, which dates back nearly a decade, had drawn significant public and political attention. With the acquittal order, the Special Court ruled in favour of the accused after considering the evidence and submissions placed on record.
