Goa, June 29 -- South Goa MP Captain Virato Fernandes, accompanied by Congress workers, met Konkan Railway General Manager Jorge Mathew on Monday to discuss the recent demolition of a footbridge by the railway authorities.

During the meeting, the General Manager clarified that the footbridge was demolished following a structural audit conducted by IIT Chennai, which found the structure unsafe for public use due to its deteriorated condition. He said the decision was taken solely in the interest of public safety and added that alternative arrangements had been made to facilitate commuter movement.
