Goa, April 17 -- Observing that rape is a "crime against the entire society," the Special POCSO Court has sentenced Taufiq Kotur to ten years of rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a woman under the false pretext of marriage.

Kotur, a resident of Mormugao, was found guilty after the court examined the evidence and circumstances surrounding the case. The prosecution established that the accused had deceived the victim with promises of marriage before committing the offence.

In its remarks, the court underscored the seriousness of such crimes, stating that acts of sexual violence not only harm the victim but also have far-reaching consequences for society at large.
