Goa, Aug. 21 -- Hours after submitting his resignation as Speaker of the Goa Legislative Assembly, senior BJP leader Ramesh Tawadkar expressed deep emotion over stepping down from the post he held for three and a half years.

"During my tenure, thousands of people from all walks of life visited the Assembly. Members gave me respect, the staff respected me, and even the public outside extended their respect," Tawadkar said in his farewell remarks.

Admitting that he had hoped to complete a full term as Speaker, Tawadkar said he was resigning "with a very heavy heart" in line with the party's political decisions ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
