India, March 17 -- A public hearing on the proposed iron ore mining project by JSW Group at Surla-Sonshi was held at Ravindra Bhavan in Sankhali, with officials from the Goa Pollution Control Board and the district Collector in attendance.
The hearing was conducted to deliberate on the environmental and social impact of the proposed mining project.However, residents from Surla and Sonshi strongly opposed the plan, voicing concerns over potential environmental degradation and its impact on their livelihoods.
Locals raised issues related to deforestation, water resources, and long-term ecological damage, urging authorities to reconsider the project.
