India, March 18 -- Ponda Police have arrested a 19 year old from Maharashtra in connection with the alleged online extortion of a minor girl from Ponda.

The accused has been identified as Tejas Barade, a resident of Osmanabad. According to police, he allegedly targeted the minor through the social media platform Snapchat and extorted her.

Officials said a case has been registered under relevant provisions of the Children's Act, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the offence and any possible involvement in similar cases.

Police have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant about their children's online activities, highlighting the risks associated with misuse of social media platforms.
