Goa, July 29 -- Launching a scathing attack on the functioning of panchayats across the State, alleging widespread corruption and mismanagement, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai claimed that local bodies have become "Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)" controlled by a select few individuals.
Speaking during the discussion on demands for the Panchayat Department, Sardesai alleged that from 2010 to 2024, the Panchayats Department failed to conduct any audits, leading to a staggering 50% loss of public funds. "This is not about decentralisation, but decentralised corruption," Sardesai asserted.
