North Goa Court Rejects Anticipatory Bail in Alleged Rape and Extortion Case
Goa, Aug. 27 -- The North Goa Fast Track Special Court has rejected the anticipatory bail application of 27-year-old Hemant Tiwari, a native of Bageshwar, Uttarakhand, in a case registered by Panaji police.
Tiwari is accused of allegedly raping a woman on the false promise of marriage, subjecting her to repeated physical violence and extorting money from her.
While dismissing the pre-arrest bail plea, the court observed that granting relief could pose a serious threat to the safety of the alleged victim, particularly in view of the reported history of persistent abuse.
The court's decision means Tiwari will not receive protection from arrest at this stage as the investigation into the allegations proceeds.
