Goa, May 11 -- A picnic outing turned tragic after Imtiaz Hussain, a first-year student of the National Institute of Technology Goa and a native of Ladakh, allegedly drowned while swimming in the Okhamb River at Dharbandora.

According to reports, Hussain was part of a group of eight NIT students who had gone to the area for a picnic when the incident occurred.

Following the incident, personnel from the police and fire services launched a search operation in the river to trace the missing student.

Authorities are continuing efforts to locate Hussain, while further investigation into the incident is underway.
