Goa, Aug. 21 -- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai Suburban, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, and Ratnagiri districts for Thursday, warning of heavy rainfall. A red alert remains in place for Nashik and an orange alert for Palghar as parts of Maharashtra continued to reel under severe flooding caused by three days of relentless downpour.

Mumbai witnessed widespread waterlogging, disrupting daily life, crippling train services, and delaying flights. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed that Mumbai recorded over 200 mm of rainfall within 11 hours on Tuesday, with water levels in the Mithi River rising dangerously close to the 4-metre danger mark.
