Mapusa, Sept. 19 -- Mapusa Police stopped and removed DJ sound systems being used during Ganesh Visarjan processions in the town as part of enforcement measures against excessive amplified sound and noise pollution.

The action was taken to ensure that the immersion processions were conducted peacefully and in compliance with applicable noise-control regulations.

Authorities have directed that prescribed noise-pollution norms be strictly followed during the use of loudspeakers and amplified sound systems for permitted festive activities.

The police action comes amid efforts to regulate amplified music during religious and festive processions and minimise inconvenience to residents.
