Goa, Oct. 2 -- A young man, believed to be under the influence of alcohol, slipped and fell into the rough waters of Anjuna Rock Beach late Wednesday night. Eyewitnesses said the man was sitting on the rocks when he lost his balance and plunged into the rough waters. Hotel staff and locals rushed to help but were unable to save him due to high tide and poor visibility.

The Anjuna Police and Mapusa Fire Brigade soon joined locals in a massive search operation. Residents Rohan Gadekar and Lester Dsouza assisted actively, while hotel staff used torches to aid the effort; the search is still underway.
