Goa, Aug. 24 -- The political confrontation in West Bengal intensified on Monday after TMC chief Mamata Banerjee alleged that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari had threatened to prevent her from leaving her home if she took to the streets to protest.
Banerjee described the alleged threat as a "new low" in Indian politics, accusing the government of adopting an authoritarian approach toward political dissent.
The dispute comes amid growing controversy over the delayed monthly financial assistance of Rs.3,000 for eligible women in Bengal under the Annapurna Yojana.
