Labour crisis and fuel costs threaten Goa's fishing industry, say fishermen
Goa, June 1 -- Goa's fishing community has voiced concern over mounting challenges as fishing activities resume after the annual monsoon fishing ban. Fishermen say that despite following all government directives during the two-month restriction period, they continue to face serious operational difficulties.
During the ban, boat owners carried out maintenance work, repaired nets and prepared vessels for the new season. However, many now report a severe shortage of workers, which is affecting fishing operations across the state.
According to fishermen, workers from states such as Odisha and Jharkhand form a significant part of the industry's workforce. The lack of adequate manpower has left many boats unable to operate efficiently.
