Goa, Sept. 9 -- Billionaire Sunjay Kapur has died suddenly in London at the age of 53, triggering a succession crisis at auto components giant Sona Comstar. Kapur, who took charge of the group in 2015 after the passing of his father Dr Surinder Kapur, expanded the company into a INR 31,000 crore (nearly $4 billion) market leader. A US citizen, Kapur entered the Forbes World's Billionaires list in 2022 with a net worth of $1.2 billion (Rs.10,300 crore). Sona Comstar, headquartered in Gurugram, employs more than 5,000 staff across 12 plants in India, China, Mexico, Serbia, and the US, and has grown rapidly thanks to the global EV boom.
