India, March 19 -- Iqbal Sayed has been elected as the Vice Chairperson of the Sanguem Municipal Council for the second time, following a no-confidence motion against former Vice Chairperson Sangameshwar Naik.
The election for the post was held on March 18, with two candidates initially in the fray - Meshu D'Costa and Iqbal Sayed. However, in a last-minute development, D'Costa withdrew his nomination minutes before the voting process, citing the absence of a secret ballot system in the election procedure.
With no other candidates remaining, Sayed was declared elected unopposed.
Despite the leadership change, the Vice Chairperson's post continues to remain with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) within the Sanguem Municipal Council.
