Goa, May 1 -- India has introduced a comprehensive new framework to regulate online gaming, with the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Rules, 2026 coming into effect on May 1. One of the most significant changes is a nationwide ban on real-money online games, alongside a push to promote e-sports and casual social gaming.
The new rules place a strong emphasis on user safety. Platforms are now required to implement measures such as age verification, financial safeguards, and greater accountability for user activity.
