India Reaffirms Indus Waters Treaty Suspension, Says It Will Remain in Abeyance Until Pakistan Ends Cross-Border Terrorism
Goa, June 6 -- India on Friday reiterated its position on the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), stating that the agreement will remain in abeyance until Pakistan completely halts cross-border terrorism, rejecting Islamabad's criticism of two proposed river projects.
The response from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) came after Pakistan accused India of attempting to "weaponise water" by moving forward with the Chenab-Beas Link Tunnel Project and plans to flush silt from the Salal Dam reservoir.
Addressing a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India has suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and will maintain its current stance until Pakistan puts an end to cross-border terrorist activities.
