Goa, Aug. 13 -- India have pulled out of the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, choosing to prioritise their much-anticipated international friendly against Brazil in October, AIFF deputy secretary general M Satyanarayanan confirmed on Thursday.

The decision comes after the federation initially agreed to participate in the new tournament and even explored the possibility of sending a separate squad while keeping the senior team available for the Brazil fixture.

"We have pulled out of the FIFA ASEAN Cup since we can't play both Brazil and FIFA ASEAN Cup," Satyanarayanan told PTI.

The withdrawal means India will miss an opportunity to face several strong Southeast Asian teams in a FIFA-sanctioned competition.
