India, Feb. 12 -- Hundreds of working people from various sectors observed a one-day strike in Panaji on Wednesday in support of the nationwide general strike call against what trade unions described as the government's "anti-worker policies."

Responding to the call given by central trade unions, members and supporters of the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) assembled in the city and marched to Azad Maidan as part of their protest.

Protesters raised slogans and carried placards demanding protection of workers' rights, withdrawal of labour reforms they claim weaken job security, and steps to curb rising prices and unemployment.
