India, March 16 -- The Goa government has earned a substantial 1,749.32 crore in revenue from casino operations over the past five years, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the Legislative Assembly. The figures were shared in a written reply tabled in the House, highlighting the contribution of the casino industry to the state's finances.
According to the data, the state issued a total of 23 casino licences under the Goa Public Gambling Act, 1976. These include 17 onshore casinos operating within hotels and six offshore casino vessels functioning in Goa's rivers and backwaters. The government clarified that all offshore casinos currently in operation possess valid permissions issued by the Captain of Ports Department.
