Goa, July 7 -- The Thane district administration has imposed a ban on entry to all major tourist destinations, including forts, waterfalls, dams, lakes and rivers, following forecasts of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across the region. The restrictions will remain in force until further notice as authorities step up efforts to prevent monsoon-related accidents.

The order was issued on Monday by Thane Collector Dr Shrikrishna Panchal under the provisions of the Disaster Management Act. Officials said the move is aimed at safeguarding residents and tourists, particularly as several popular monsoon destinations witness a surge in visitors during this time of the year.
