PANJIM: With Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently taking the initiative to implement a sports quota for the State's sportspersons in the professional colleges, the High Court of Bombay at Goa has struck it down.
This may come as a setback, but importantly, the High Court did not oppose the idea of a sports quota - it was struck down merely on procedural grounds. Since Goa has a Sports Policy in place since 2009, the government must follow the proper framework to make such a quota legally valid and the hurried implementation during mid admission process without changing the prospectus is wrong, the High Court ruled.
