Goa opened their Cooch Behar Trophy Elite (U-19) four-day encounter against Assam on a promising note, as the match began at the Dr Bhausaheb Bandodkar ground of Panaji Gymkhana, Campal, here, on Sunday. After Assam won the toss and opted to bowl first, Goa marched confidently to 218 for 4 by stumps on Day 1, shaping a position of quiet command. Aditya Kota (38) and Sarthak Bhike (32) provided Goa with a sturdy opening stand of 55. Assam tasted their first success when Mohit Thakur dismissed Sarthak.
