Goa Human Rights Commission Flags Sewage Issues at Colvale Jail, Seeks Action
Goa, Aug. 27 -- The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has taken cognisance of serious sewage-related issues at the Central Jail in Colvale, Bardez, after receiving a complaint highlighting foul odour and sanitation concerns affecting inmates and staff.
The complaint, submitted by Board of Visitors nominee Adv. Savio Travasso, stated that the sewage problem has persisted since 2021 despite repeated follow-ups with officials of the Public Works Department (PWD).
According to the complaint, the foul smell and poor sanitation conditions could pose health risks to inmates and others working at the jail and increase the possibility of communicable diseases.
