PANAJI, Sept. 17 -- The Goa State Commission for Backward Classes has approached the High Court seeking a two-month extension to submit empirical data on the population of Backward Classes in connection with the ongoing municipal elections matter.

In its judgment dated August 25, the High Court had directed the Commission to furnish the required empirical data to the State Election Commission by September 16.

The Commission has now sought additional time to comply with the court's direction.

The matter has been scheduled for hearing on September 23, when the High Court is expected to consider the request for an extension.
