Goa, June 11 -- The Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC) has intervened in the con troversy surrounding the death of Mapusa youth Samuel Braganza, tak ing suo motu cognisance of the O Heraldo report published on June 8, 2026, titled 'Mapusa erupts in protest, demands justice for Samuel', which raised disturbing questions about whether there was custodi al assault prior to his death and triggered calls for an independent probe.

The Commission has directed the Chief Secre tary, Secretary (Home), Superintendent of Police (North Goa) and the Police Inspector of Mapusa Police Station to submit detailed reports and appear before it on June 17.
